Our Referral Partners: Collaborating for Young Carers

At Unseen Heroes, we understand that young carers often need specialized support to thrive. Our referral partners play a crucial role in identifying and guiding young carers to the help they need. Through collaboration with schools, services, and organizations, we aim to connect young carers with our programs and provide them with the resources and support essential for their well-being.

Our Approach to Partnerships

We partner with schools, community services, and organizations that actively recognize and support young carers. By working together, we can ensure that these young individuals receive the care and assistance they deserve. Here’s how our referral partners contribute to our mission:

1. Identifying Young Carers
Our referral partners are instrumental in identifying young carers within their communities and institutions. Through training and awareness programmes, they learn to recognize the signs of caregiving responsibilities, and the unique challenges faced by these young individuals. This early identification is crucial for timely intervention and support.

2. Providing Initial Support

Once a young carer is identified, our partners offer initial support and guidance. They provide information about the resources available and the importance of reaching out for additional help. By fostering a supportive environment, they help young carers understand that they are not alone and that support is available.

Poutiri Wellness Centre sponsored 10 referrals from their service and community into the Te Ara Mārama programme in 2024.

3. Referring to Unseen Heroes
Referral partners play a key role in connecting young carers with Unseen Heroes programmes. Through streamlined referral processes, they can easily direct young carers to our services, ensuring they receive the specialized support tailored to their needs. This collaboration helps bridge the gap between identification and access to essential resources.

Te Rina presented at Pirirakau Hauora, establishing a referral process to support young carers in accessing the Te Ara Mārama programme.

5. Raising Awareness
Referral partners also help raise awareness about the needs of young carers within their communities and institutions. By advocating for the importance of recognizing and supporting young carers, they contribute to a more informed and empathetic environment.
